CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting
The Certificate in Business Accounting is CIMA’s entry level accounting qualification for students with little or no accounting background. The certificate level gives you business experience beyond just financial accounting and you’ll gain insight into how the different areas of accounting relate to the business world. The certificate level consists of five subjects:

Master’s gateway route
Eligible individuals are required to take the CIMA Gateway exam, also known as the Management Level Case Study exam for those who are not on the accelerated route. The CIMA Gateway Exam is:
- a computer based case study exam
- three hours long
- available in four windows a year
- assesses knowledge and competencies covered in the Management level of the CIMA Professional Qualification.
Once you have passed the CIMA Gateway Exam, you will be granted 12 exemptions that include subjects from the certificate level, operational and management level exams, allowing you to progress straight to the strategic level of CIMA Professional Qualification.
Eligibility for becoming a CIMA qualified professional
Anyone can study CIMA, whether you’re new to business and accounting or already have some experience.
Before you can get started on the Professional qualification, you will need a foundation in business or accounting studies.
These can be:
• The CIMA Certificate in business accounting.
• A Master’s in accounting or an MBA.
• Proof of membership of ICWAI, ICMAP or ICMAB.
• Proof of membership of an IFAC body.

Assessment
Objective tests
You take nine key assessments (the objective tests) on demand and via computer with results available immediately. This will give you more flexibility with how you plan your way through the qualification.
You can choose to sit your assessments the moment you feel you are ready. There’s no need to follow a rigid test schedule. As soon as you pass, you can move on to the next objective test.
Case Studies
Case studies, available four times a year, focus on the key skills employers have asked for.
Case study assessments consolidate the learning at each CIMA level (operational, management, strategic) to reflect real-life work situations. They are also taken via computer but marked in person by examiners.
